So, the only time you should pursue is if you lost the previous round, but you have a good chance to win the pursue round, and therefore the combat. It is normally better to not pursue, since the number of captured enemy people at the end is based off of the number of living enemies, and pursuing will kill off those enemies. ![]() This is most visible in the sand worm battle entering Tectum Carvos, where you have to win the battle, or you lose the game. Sometimes you will lose those things even though you "won" the battle. If you "lose" you don't keep anything and may lose cargo/mounts/slaves/etc. If you "win" then you capture the enemy stuff and people regardless of whether you pursue them or not. Crew combat has a hidden "win" and "lose" condition that takes precedence over pretty much everything that is actually displayed.
